Lola, an independent woman in her late 70s, is widowed and living with her son and his family. Her unique view of life is matched only by her fierce independence, wicked sense of humor and blunt, but often heart-warming honesty. Everyone's grandma may not be as witty as Lola, a sharpshooter who's busy living life to the fullest and making sure everyone else does too.

Todd Clark

Todd Clark is the cartoonist behind the comic strip Lola. The title character, an independent woman in her late 70s, is widowed and living with her son and his family. Her unique view of life is matched only by her fierce independence, wicked sense of humor and blunt, but often heart-warming, honesty. Not everyone's grandma is as witty as Lola, a sharpshooter who's busy living life to the fullest and making sure everyone else does, too. Lola appears in 125 papers worldwide.

History
Clark has been drawing for as long as he can remember, probably as a result of always carrying a copy of MAD magazine with him as a child … and as an adult. Since he began cartooning full-time in 1990, his cartoons have appeared in magazines ranging from Saturday Evening Post to Diversion to Disney Adventures. Clark’s work is regularly featured in MAD, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Besides full-time duties on Lola, Clark also writes for some heavyweight strips, including Sherman’s Lagoon, Mother Goose, and Grimm and Frank and Ernest, with his past worked including Bizarro and Dennis the Menace. In addition, Clark writes regularly for B.C., Wizard of ID and Tundra. He has tried his hand at book writing as well, his kid’s chapter book, “The Ice Cream Kid: Brain Freeze” is scheduled to launch next March with AMP! Comics for Kids, a book division of Andrews McMeel Publishing. His beautiful wife, Kelly, daughters, Holly and Rhiannon, and an ever-changing number of critters around the house complete Clark’s life in Boise, Idaho.

Meet the Cast of Lola

Lola
Lola She’s a quick-witted, outspoken 70-something rebel. At this point in her life, Lola’s not too worried about proper diet or being “P.C.” She’ll surprise you with her kindness one minute, and zing you with her razor-sharp wit the next. A widow who’s now living with her son and family in suburbia, Lola was an army nurse in World War II and can still bark out a command that gets attention. Lola enjoys soap operas, all sports and yard sales, preferably with a good cigar and a cold beer.
Sammy
Sammy Lola’s 12-year-old grandson, and her pride and joy. Lola is much more like a friend than a grandma. He’s stuck in that awkward age, caught somewhere between girlfriends and action figures. He’s a good, smart kid just trying to figure life out … with Lola’s help. Although he wants to play pro sports someday, he has very limited athletic ability. Like most guys, his back-up plan is to be a rock star.
Ray
Ray Trying to be a good son, Ray asked Lola to move in with his family. Ray’s attention to detail and nagging are constant sources of irritation to Lola. He is extremely sports-challenged and is a meticulous overthinker who married his high school sweetheart, Amy. Sammy is their son.
Amy
Amy Amy is a good mother who tries her best to keep her son, Sammy, away from bad influences … and that’s mainly Lola. Amy gave up full-time work to raise Sammy. She had a nice, peaceful, smoke-free life going until her mother-in-law moved in. Through it all, Amy is compassionate, patient, slightly overprotective and tough when she needs to be.
Harry
Harry Being Lola’s boyfriend is no easy task, but Harry seems up for the challenge. His laid-back attitude balances Lola’s intensity, but it also drives her crazy. Harry’s still a big kid at heart, as most fellas are. When he and Lola go out, they always go “dutch.” He wears his frugality as a badge of honor.
Etta
Etta Lola’s senior “sistah” friend. Etta and Lola have a unique and competitive, yet loving friendship. Etta is one of the few people in the world willing to put Lola in her place. She’s fearless. Together they form quite an “old school” butt-kicking duo.
